This is Hacker Public Radio episode 3,822 for Tuesday the 28th of February 2023. Today's show is entitled, Attack of the Squish Mallow. It is hosted by Rowan, and is about 97 minutes long. It carries a clean flag. The summary is Rowan Records replacing the screen to a Macbook Pro. Hi, welcome to Hacker Public Radio. This is Rowan, and today I will be replacing a Macbook Pro laptop display. We had a tragic Squish Mallow accident over the holidays. Yes. Be careful, even the Squish Mallow can destroy your electronic screens. It hit the laptop all of a sudden, slamming the lid shut onto the keyboard, and we ended up with a no screen except for a nice crack that is backlit whenever the laptop is on. So, not a happy incident, but we did get an XBR episode out of it. We initially were thinking we were just going to end up replacing it to laptops. I think circa 2017, a lot of times when you look at the cost just to buy a replacement screen for a Macbook. It's particularly if you're not buying something a brand new laptop, if you're going to try to replace it for the same vintage, it costs more to replace the screen, just to buy the screen, not even if you're going to then have somebody replace it for you. So, initially we were thinking, okay, we looked around, and the initial prices we did find were like, it was the same deal, it was like, well let's say we can find a similar Macbook to buy, but then my wonderful girlfriend kept looking, and she found a screen for $200, which is not inexpensive, but looking at the $450 to $500 US dollars, we were seeing everywhere else, this is quite the deal, and I had successfully replaced a iPod Touch screen before, and I've nested with my other Dell and a huge key laptops. So I've done some repairs on laptops before, so I still confident enough that it's worth buying the screen and giving it a world, so here we are, and we found, actually my girlfriend did all the research on this, before she said, can you do this, that was great, she found an I fix it, article on it, and that's what I'm going to be using today to walk me through. It says it takes one to two hours, I'm probably figuring three to four to do it, I've already been at it, just to set up, took me about an hour, because of course I was trying to get everything set up neatly, and then I realized that one of the first things it says is make sure that the laptop is drained to less than the battery is less than 25% for safety, you also need to turn off auto boot, well, I couldn't see the screen, so I was like, okay, we need to hook this up to an external monitor, and I do have an external monitor, but he did not have a Thunder port, or Thunderbolt port to HDMI, or display port HDMI adapter, so that was a quick trip to Microsenter, one of the big box electronic stores in the area to get an adapter, and that did work, it was a bit of fun trip, because it between having to actually put a charger on the MacBook, and then hook up to display, I used the two Thunderbolt ports, and so I did have a keyboard, except for the laptop, the keyboard on the laptop, well, like Mac does nicely, if you plug in the external display, find it, but of course nothing shows up on that screen, I did figure out that if I turned it on with the lid down, it then would use the external display as the main screen, but then I soon opened the keyboard up, or the laptop lid up, and it would want to switch back, I finally, with the little playing around and not quite opening the lid up all the way, got it to the point where I could check the battery level, and that was already down to 12%, so that was good, and I was able to follow the instructions for turning the auto reboot off, so we're now at a point of actually doing the physical replacement of the screen, so let's go to I fix it and see what our next step is, so let's see what done that part, so step two, the lower case, let's see, before proceeding, unplugging power down your MacBook, I have done that, closed display, and laid on a soft surface topside down, I guess the soft surface includes our dining room table, and preparation of this, I mean we already have a table locked down, it's actually a plastic one, it provides a little cushion, and I did actually lay on some, I took out a big wide sheet of Christmas paper and flipped it over, which does two things, provides a nice white background, actually a white background with the crids on it, so I'll be able to easily see things and take pictures for this episode's page on HBR, but also my idea is I want to be able to write on the wrapping paper, the various steps, and then put the screws next to that step, so that I can make sure not to lose them, and then I'll also want to provide the above my girlfriend was, she has some of these little plastic cups with lids that I'm going to be able to tape down to the paper, and then put the screws in that way we have cats who, of course, get curious whenever I start to do something, so I won't have to worry about them getting on the table and knocking things around when I'm not looking, so that is the setup that will probably be a picture in the show notes, so right now, the next step is to use a P5 Pintalope driver to remove the 6 screws, carrying the two lower screws, to 6.2mm screws, to 5.3mm 2.3.4, throughout this repair, keep track of each screw, and make sure it goes back exactly where it came from, alright, so I need to set up the table, actually I need to go get a, what do I need now, I need a pen, to do two, let's see, let's see, run step two, step two, let's see how we can do this, I guess I can just use a cup for each of the two different, let's run me a little, hopefully I have lots of cups, so let me set up the tape, did the old put it in a loop, so you can turn it into double sided tape, stick that down, let's see, I'll be going to be making a punch roll, opening for myself, since I'm just letting the recording go as I do this, I don't want to bore you all, I'm actually taking it, taping three cups to the Christmas paper on the table, and I've marked step two, and now I'm going to mark the size of the screws under the cup, so I know which ones go where, two, three, and three point four millimeters, all right, so let's see, I'm getting more value, I bought one of these, I fix it, I don't know how many pieces, like, 50, maybe some heads for a screwdriver, so it has the driver part and then the heads you can swap in and out, and that's a whole bunch of them, which has come in handy over the years, I would say if you're listening to it, you may be the person that wants to receive this gift, but it's definitely worth having, it's definitely one of the things that if I ever did what's in my bag episode, it definitely is in my bag, it's always, I carry it everywhere pretty much, all p5s, or let's see how this goes, let's see, 6.2 millimeters as the upper left, well, as I'm facing it, the upper left corner, oh, and that works very nicely, there's one, there's two on the cup, let's go ahead and put a little on this, let's see, let's see, we'll do the 5.3, which are in the other bottom corners, there's one, there is two, the cup, the lid, that's all right, and now the 3.4, and two, okay, for those curious this is, they are cold, portion cups with lid, 3.5 ounce, let's see, that I don't have a convenience, a leader or a middle leader for our European listeners, maybe if I think about it, I'll put it in the show notes, let's see, okay, so now we are on to, throughout this repair, can you try to screws, okay, step 3, apply a suction cup handle to lower case near front, let's see, let me see, I know I have a suction cup, I just have to remember, all right, let me pause this and go get my other tool bag, wasn't quite as prepared as I thought it was, okay, so step 3, apply a suction handle to lower case near the front center, area of the naplopro, lift the suction cup handle to create a slight separation between the lower cap, chest, okay, step 4, insert one corner of an opening pick into the space between the lower chassis, the lower case in the chassis, okay, let's say it try that again, now I'm going to pick, luckily I have acquired, actually from the Putnana, I have a little kit that came with it and had a number of picks, there's a pick in there, slide the opening pick around the nearest corner and halfway at the side, this releases the first of the hidden clips securing the lower case, should feel and hear the clip, the clip pop free, and I'm only feeling pressure, stuff like not doing which was interesting, so far I haven't followed any pops or clicks on the corner, and I feel getting tighter, if this releases the first clip, not there it is, but sound or feel good, but I think it popped it, I think, maybe, yes, okay, repeat the previous on the opposite side okay, let's see what happens, this is always the same part, I don't know if anything wants to slide around a good bit, there we go, okay, okay, clip comes free, step 6, insert your opening pick once again under the front edge, the lower case, you're one of the two, give the pick a front twist to pop free the third clip to the lower chassis, okay, repeat this procedure near the two center-most screw, front edge near one of the, ah, gotcha, there we go, okay, one of the center is popping the fourth clip free, seven pull the lower case firmly towards the front of the MacBook away from the hinge area, to separate the last clips, okay, may help pull first one corner than the other, this clip may require a lot of force, not something you want to read, let's see, both sides, I want one side, to stuck my, I was sort of holding on the one corner and I pushed on the back, there's a little bit of a gap there, okay, that was actually that bad, you can just put, put your hand on the finger on the back and push forward, so I now have the back off and we have it open, I'm going to picture this, let's see, I have to do too much, okay, so done this, dot, dot, dot, step eight, remove the lower case, okay, did that, step nine, the battery connector, carefully peel up the large piece of tape covering the battery connector on the edge of the logic board near the battery, large piece of tape, this is a nice status, I fix it kit and not that I'm being paid anything for I fix it, but I have to say they're, they stuff I bought from them and they're tutorials, I mean a lot of it is user-generated content, but it's all been, like, I would not be doing this without this stuff, it definitely makes it possible to do it yourself, let's see, that looks, oh, that must be, it's a pretty similar to the laptop, because everything looks exactly the same as it does in the tutorial, so pick that up, okay, that's not so bad, remove the tape, sorry, let me, let me just tape this directly, I mean I'm just using a visible tape, it's not super sticky, but I'll just flip that over and tape this down directly and then mark it, just do it on the corner so it's not that, okay, let's see, step 10, gently peel back the small piece of tape covering the battery board data cable connector, the tape is integrated into the ribbon cable, will not detach completely, simply peel it back and enough to access the connector, okay, I'll probably peel that back, okay, I'll far back, do you take it, I see, I get off the, okay, I guess it's just enough, so you can see I see the connector, step 11, oh yeah, it does a good, use the tip of this booger to flip the small black locking tabs to carrying a cable and it's connector, do, do, do, okay, flip this up, there we go, there we go, okay, step 12, disconnect the battery, did you board data cable by sliding it out from the socket, slide parallel to the logic board in the direction of the cable, okay, there we go, that was a ton of, although now, okay, it's sort of the tape at the end, I got a ton of my tweezers, but that is now loose, let's see, fold the battery board cable back into out of the way, if you're replacing the battery, you may need to completely remove the drain, I hope I'm not doing that, okay, so I just need to get it out of the way, use a T5 torque driver to remove the 3.0 pancake screw, securing the battery power connector, okay, there's that, this is back, there's that, okay, okay, so I'll be actually get this ready on the right, step 14, step 14, get a cup ready, another thing, I bought a tape dispenser, I guess it was too Christmas ago, my girlfriend's like, why do you need a tape dispenser until she tried using a tape dispenser, they are very handy, makes it very easy to pull piece of tape with one hand, you don't have to, there's just handy plus it's helping hold down the Christmas wrapping paper comes down to the table, all right, so that's there, so now I need my T5 torque, and I'm just going to allow the, okay, now I put a rowing, and I have put down my screwdriver, and I cut it up, and I'm going to put it up, I'm trying to put down a little, I did cover it up, I got it, and the screwdriver has a plastic case that comes in with all the different heads on it, and then that slides into the sort of fiber case that holds it in the bump to the other tools that I bought when I bought this kit, and I'd put that over top of the screwdriver, let's see, we need a T5, do you T5, turn it in, the 3.7 millimeter pancake screws, screwing the battery power connector, there we go, I'm going to cut it right out, in there, put the lid on it, I need a little more space, keep covering things up, it's okay, battery screw, let's set 15, use a spuder digently lift the battery power connector, disconnection battery, lift the connector in high enough so that it's say separated from its socket, if it actually makes contact between the coarser could damage it out, yes, let's definitely not, how do we lift this up, okay, let me just slide it under, and so on, up there we go, see, okay, all right, it comes up, but there's a second that has two pictures, just want to show you, it does go up pretty high, okay, oh, good damage to battery, all right, now it's up, similar to how they have it in the repair guide, I'll take a picture and we can all compare to the comparison, what I've done, let's see, step 16, remove the hinge cover, remove the 4.9 mm, the 4.9 mm D3 Torch screws, securing the plastic covers on top of this plate, remove both plastic hinges, okay, put it up up, let me get that set up, what is this, step 16, step 16, just need one cup for both, all right, let's see, we've got to find my T3 and T2, T3, come on, all right, there's our tiny one to these those, T2, this just popped up with these enough, let me cut the two, so I'll get the hinge cover, all of this screws, and I'll work it on the second one, screw it on, two screws, hinge cover, step 16 is done, step 17, disconnect the main display cable, remove the two 2.9 mm T3 Torch screws, securing the aluminum cover on top of the main display cable, remove the cover, let me see, let me turn this, what I'm looking at is, that's from, okay, that's from the opposite, it's the laptop, it's turned around in the picture to the way I currently have it in front of me, yes, charging by, okay, so it's having that direction, probably should just turn this around and make my life simpler, so that everything is lined up, and I'm trying to do a mirror image in my head, so that goes there, so those are two screws, I would say, yes, all right, let me get the cup ready, let me, I thought I left myself in that one, but it's getting crowded in here, I'm just leaving it with a marking on the table, but that's okay, make some last 16, step 17, take the cup, take the cup, put it in the circle, now I'm right, I think there's a T3 that I had before, look at that, let's take these out, two of them, yeah, I don't feel right, that says T3, let's see the comments, I agree, if you try tightening these with T3, you'll partially strip them, use a T4, for me the left one on the image, or T3 in the right is T4, and the one I have, that doesn't feel like a T3, let me try a T4, that is a nice thing, there's like between the guides and the comments, and you know, I'm sure there's a little, it may just depend on the maybe the model, there's slight difference or maybe just what they had in stock when they were building these on and I, but yes, that was definitely a T4, okay, there's one, there's two, yeah, that's definitely a T4 also, okay, a T4, so that was step 17, step 18, remove the 2, 1.7 millimeter T3, 12 screws, aluminum, securing the aluminum cover on top of the display cable flux connector, remove the cover, wait, there's our rubber cover, remove the cover, remove the cover, oh, I almost forgot to remove the cover, on the last step, let me go back, what does that sound, just grab my tweezers, come at these really super point tweezers, which I'm great, except I have lost the plastic sort of cone-shaped piece that goes over them when you're not using, so it's very easy to poke yourself with them, which I have done a number of times, keep trying to find something to use, please it, so far in a walk, I'll just keep those out safely to the side because I think I have to do the same thing, the step 18 is moving this other cover with that was right below, let's see, we're the 2, 1.7 millimeter T3, 12 screws, screwing the aluminum cover on top of the display cable flux connector, remove the rubber rack, step 18, step 12, we're going to go up now for the screw, let's say T3, I'm going to guess these might be T4's, and they're T4's, so I'm going to just one, two, tweezers to get the cover off, really, it doesn't just pop off, I know there we go, I'm going to just hit the floor, okay, step 18 is in the cup, I'll see, and I just poke myself with the tweezers, be careful with them, 19, pry the display board, flex cable straight up from its socket to disconnect it from the display board, okay, there's my screwdriver, 2, 2, 2, nice, oh, let's see, straight up, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh there we go, okay, that aren't, this is disconnected, step 20, unscrew the display cable covers, with the four 1.5-millimeter T3 Torch screws, carrying the two aluminum and kev covers on top of the two display cables. Here's a pair of tweezers to remove the two aluminum covers. All right. I get that already on the table. Let's see. Let's see. This is step 20. Let's just think I can get away with one cup for a little more, let's see. Okay, I think I'm going to go with the T4 again just because that's been working with everything else. It doesn't seem to boil. Is that it? I don't know. These may actually be a T3's charge is now, feel kind of, let me try the T3. Oh, yeah, that's a definitely a T3 and these are another really tiny screws. There's one, there's two that cover disordered on the off, a little bit, I can probably just get that with my fingers, well, yep, I can do the cup for the second cover, screw one, screw two, I feel like I should be, it wasn't so cold out doing it outside of the OO. That's just sort of spinning. I think that's the one common above the guy said the one was a T3 and the other was a T4, let's think of this, that's happening here, that's an handy. Now, what do I do? Maybe I'll just put a piece of tape on this one so I know that it's the T4. Yeah, that's definitely a T4. Oh, what do I do this? No, no, no, it's not making any more difficult for myself, I think I'm just going to put this on a piece of tape and sort of tape it on the inside of the cup, so I know that's the T4. All right, so far, so good, all right, step 21, unscrew the antenna assembly, and remove the T2, 3.3 millimeter T5 Torx screws, one from each side, carrying the antenna cable assembly. I'll also remove the 4.1 millimeter T5 Torx screws, one from each side, move the 1, 12, 1.1 millimeter, Pentello screws, six from each side, all right, so I need one, two, like three cups. Okay, I see that as some, all right, I need to do three cups and two, three, this, step 21, sorry, I keep mumbling, I need to remember I'm trying to record this and not mumbling two, three cups, so tape, two, three, two, three, two, three, two, three, two, three, two, let's see how many hands mark down what to do, so we're going to do three, three, three meter, four point one millimeter, and one point one millimeter, just 20 more. Let's see, I guess we'll just do this in the order, as it says, this back, here comes a cat into my lap, two, five, that's all right, I need you to go away, thank you, kitty, one from each side of the end, and she's back, this time behind me, so that's okay, there's one screw, no, all right, just to end my lap, but you really, it's more of a mode and a job than a one-maning K-cat job, there's one second screw, okay, I need these are T-flops also, 4.1 millimeter, one from each, okay, where are they, I'm very confused, did I do that wrong, oh crap, do we have two antennas, oops, that's on handy, let's see, I was going to say, well, 3.3 and 4.1, can I see the difference, yes, I think I can, what did I say, 4.1, because the second one, that looks bigger, yeah, okay, so there's two antennas, I want on each side, and so they have mirror screws in the same position, like the assemblies look the same, they're just mirrored on the left and right side of the lap top, so what am I taking now on it, if I go whole hall, oops, let's get the right screw, there it is, yes, yes, okay, so this should be the 3.3 millimeter, the other side, okay, and this, this, okay, I wonder if I should, I just need to make sure I know what I'm doing, what I put in the back together, it's probably, okay, 4.1, that just sort of flips up there, okay, now remove the 12, 1.1 pin to load, so that's 6 per side, all right, and that's a P2, all right, P2, so I'm the, that's one of them, and these are really small, 1.1 millimeter P2, and I was doing the iPod Touch, I actually, and I think it made more sense for that, because one is much smaller, even though it does have, I think just about as nice screws, but I sort of laid all the screws out in the shape and position for the approximate shape and position of how I pulled it, like I unscrewed it from it, so I pretty much put this screws, like, right back into the same holes that they came out of. I, I'm, I'm going, I'm going to see if I'm not shouldn't be such a big deal for this, and I mean, not worry about it, I don't think it will be an issue, I'm now on screw 7, 8, coming out of the one that's on the left side, that's facing me currently. I'm sort of grouping them in the cup, one side to the other side, so that I'll know at least what side they came out of, but like I said, it shouldn't ring with matter. Sometimes I'm a little more particular about that than others, I think it's more important, I just make sure I get the right sizes, and this cup, I like this cup situation, all right, so those are all out, bent a little screw, securing the rest of the antenna. Okay, so now I want to step 22, that I, oh boy, oh good, I'm recording, I'm like, but I start recording, that would have been painful. All right, step 22, carefully disconnect the two antenna coax cables by prime them straight up from the logic board, slide your tweezers, screwdriver, and each cable until it's near the socket and then gently twist or pry up to disconnect. Okay, to these two, okay, I've done this before with other things, this is always fun, and then you to actually get my glasses on for this, excuse me, it's always, how do you gently pry up the tweezers? Not, if I can just, I'm there, I just took a pair of tweezers, it sort of slid it between the cable and on the back, the frame, or whatever it's on, and that's just sort of popped. There we go, okay, so those are up, pushing them back out of the way a little bit. All right, to reconnect on, we're about to have a wide replay and press down, okay, step 23, remove, okay, remove the 2.8 millimeter T5 torch, screw securing the two antenna coax cables to the main board. All right, get that ready, step 28, open my laptop 23, I'm thinking, step 28, the T5, okay, all right, that's done, step 24, unseat the antenna assembly, using an opening pick to leave around the antenna cable, do not slide the opening pick from side to side, there are two split cables in the way that may damage. All righty, so I guess you need to sort of, sort of find the different spots and lift. All right, where are they? Oh, okay, that's really simple, not, it's not like it's super stuck in there, so they do it in the middle of it, and do the other side, okay, I'm not sure what I'm supposed to move the middle part is not, it's just a real place to mess the screw, I don't think it in this screw, I think it's not, there we go, on the bottom part, okay, I can't get up, once it's just carefully removing the antenna assembly, well, it's honestly feeding the antenna cable bundle through the hole in the chassis, okay, let's see, okay, I still gotta get this popped up, well, there we go, there we go, there we go, do you try to work the antenna cables out under on the chassis, that's like the, okay, that is on handy, I try to keep, so the end is where the attach, there we go, okay, put this by step 23, all right, that is done, step 26, remove the antenna cable, antenna cable assembly, I think it's already doing move the antenna assembly, okay, I did that antenna cables, oh, I already did that, I'm very confused, they look like the same thing, yes, no, I don't, okay, well maybe it's just two steps, let's just two steps, all right, I already did both of those steps together, okay, unscrew the display cable assembly, okay, remove the, remove the 4, 3.9 millimeter, T3 Torch screws, screwing the cover springs on the two display cables, okay, step 27, let me get that set up, this, step 27, 27, the same screw, so I can get what's in the cover, T3, all right, T3 head, okay, let's see, that's like T4 is again, yeah, that's definitely T4, oh crap, I guess I'll figure it out, I should probably should mark it on my paper when I use different sized Torch heads, hopefully we'll come back to me, yeah, that works a lot better, all right, there's one, there is two, there we go, 3, this arm up, that way to the speaking, there's four, okay, okay, remove the display cable assembly, put a little on that first, and grab the left side of the display cable assembly, pull it towards the bottom and the back book away from this cover spring, excuse me, here's a pair of tweezers to pull the cover spring on the display cable out of its recess, repeat the step with the right side cover spring, okay, let's see, that should be fun, let's see, I always love spring assembly, I usually so much fun, all right, that's weird, okay, it's a little more delicate, I would think it's already out, and pair comes to you, am I just taking that out, these just sort of pulled right out, I didn't have to do them, maybe the other side, okay, never mind, that was just getting, there's like a plastic assembly that I had already unscrewed, or that I guess I just unscrewed, and you're just pulling it away, there's like a ribbon attaching it to, I guess, the cover, okay, so that's done, all right, step 29, unscrew the hinge bolts, fully open the screen and stand your MacBook Pro up on one side, while standing the MacBook Pro with your free hand, remove the three T8 Torch screws from the lower display hinge, move the remaining three T8 from the upper display, and all right, let me get the setup, there's step 28, maybe a little bit of a cup, okay, all right, let's turn this on that side, okay, I guess I can grab another picture for potstarity, I don't get the whole layout in this picture, as far as parts getting back into my thumb, there we go, let's slide this first, and sort of see it over the layout, I set up, let's take this skirt, I'll hinge it out with one free hand, remove the three T8, T8, T8, T8, T8, T8, that's not bad, bottom first, oh yeah, these are gonna be in their tight, okay, so get out my little leverage, here we go, there's one, there's two, now working on two, as you would expect, the hand bolts are screws are the tightest two, there's the three, so the bottom is just about loose, almost, there's three, I started the top, number one, I've been doing the middle first and then the top, I don't know if it matters, just so, oh yeah, there we go, this is the second to last screwing to come out, oh yeah, that's a handy plate, onto the carpet, there we go, there we go, six are held, it's very loose, now what doesn't say, remove the display assembly, keep a firm grip on both the screen and the main body, the MacBook Pro, either have, fall during the step, yeah, push both halves on the MacBook Pro together so that the hinge brackets can be lifted clear, can be lifted clear of their recesses and push the main body, the MacBook Pro away from you while pulling the screen toward you to separate it, remove the display screen assembly being careful not to snag it on any cables, look at these three different pictures, they have for the step, blank, push, are they so are they, looks like they're, does that go to the top, okay, but push both halves on the MacBook Pro together so that the hinge brackets can be, oh well, that worked, just sort of, I just sort of moved it and pushed it to pop the part, luckily nothing fell and I have my hands on everything so I now have the screen in one hand and on the motherboard of the other, all right, it's come apart, all righty, that was step 30, step, oh, okay, well I haven't actually opened up the box completely for the replacement, I guess it comes, some of this doesn't, it's, it's conclusion, I feel like, this maybe that's all, okay hold on let me see what's going on, do, do, do, do, do, do, okay, I'm back, so I just opened up, fully opened up, well almost opened up, fully the case, the box, the replacement, the display came in and I just, I hadn't actually looked at the replacement screen yet, so I finally started actually, I just taking it out and it does come with a repair kit so it comes with a little screwdriver with, it looks like all the different head to need I already had, but nice if you're buying it, you do get that and it looks like it comes with instructions on how to do things, so that is nice too that, like I said, I fixed its instruction, maybe they're probably printed right from my fix that I don't know, maybe not, but, yeah, okay, so that's one of the reasons I guess not screens, to get them that thin, it's actually, you get the hole assembly, but it's the metal casing, I don't know, it looks like it may even have the apple logo on it, I can't tell, the hole display is similar, like the, I guess the circuitry and stuff, all right, so now they're just stored instructions, so I need to take the tape and stuff off, it's holding the protective, I have a piece of protective plastic and it also is holding the, um, the, uh, like circuitry, spring stuff that was like a step, at 28, and I'm not 28, 27, um, just bring assembly on, so it does really have a direction, I'm now trying to take all that off without scratching the screen, I'll go, and I'll be pictures of everything in the show notes, okay, let's not drop my phone until the future screen, all right, let's get that away, to get this thing assembled, so take the old screen, get it out of the way, and the box, let's see, so, I think, basically now I just go through the steps and reverse, let's see, yeah, during a assembly, ensure that, ensure the display cable simply lies on the correct side, on the main body before refasting the hinges, be sure to confirm that both connectors on either side of the display cable is similar, fully seated as these may have come loose during the assembly process, okay, okay, I'm going to make that back plastic on until I ever think about back together, okay, make sure, there you go, not a way out of my thing, all right, this may take some thinking, it was flipped over, that slides in, so now we go like that, where that stuff, yes, that will go, maybe that, right, that connector, okay, that's it, now this is always the fun part, trying to get everything aligned to pack up, to get it back together, okay, okay, guess what you just said about that, got to do this, try to remember how I had it, thank you, it was like that, okay, yes, now this, looks, so that's folded out, but then they go, now that does work, if I'm a clue, they must have been flipped over, that way, I don't lay, all right, by the way, screen design, display connected, check whether the cable interface on the screen is listed or off, you just try to connect it, back like cable, before I check whether the cable interface on the screen is listed or falling off, you should connect it, well, back screen troubles change, screen does not display on the beautiful, please shut down, it's gonna go on and restart the computer, all right, so it doesn't look like the camera, loose, yes, oh, it was a connect, all right, so now I think I'm trying to get the camera cable connected, I can't, hey, hey, hey, hey, they don't want to have to make, take everything apart, if I'm not, hey, this is gonna make for some exciting luckily, I guess I just keep quiet, I can use the automatic voice cancellation, can has taught me multiple times, whatever, I do one of the community news, okay, that seems to be on there now, it was already on, okay, so the camera, it says, make sure that you double-check with the camera and the backlit display cables are connected and like they both seem to be now, all right, how do I get, how do I get this back together, and it looks, because that looks like it's flipped backwards, how do you, oh, it's just cutting grab it, okay, that's what I thought, but it was just difficult, because there's a new spring, so you have to grab the hand and sort of get it to come, like it's in the open position, which I, you know, was easy to do, when it was actually connected to the laptop, I just was very weary of applying any extra pressure, but as I did move after I, okay, so now I can shift it and these two up on a side, like I did, or except this was like, how does that, how can I actually pass there, right, yes, oh, yes, there, so that goes like that, okay, that goes like this, and this goes like this, okay, slide in, like, oh, oh, okay, slide, try to get everything lined up, there we go, now that I have no cables sticking out in any weird places, no, okay, so I should be able to try to get some screws back, I'm going to quite lined up, oh, there we go, that sounded better, looks better, no cables caught or destroyed in that, okay, all right, let me just give one screw in here to give me some wiggle rail, all right, so step up, okay, okay, all right, step 28, 29, while studying the MacBook, we'll move, so let me do this in reverse, I guess I'll do the upper brackets first, and I'll do this, okay, so let me, these are torques, they sort of want to do it to it, because they don't need to tighten quite up, yeah, it's maybe able to do it hand-tight put out, and I don't want to, I mean, I know with the hinges, you definitely want them tight enough, but I also don't want to, this is lined up, there's two in the top, here's three in the top, now for the bottom hinge, okay, we are recording, all right, there we go, okay, let's try to get a little bottom one, two in the bottom hinge, I think the thing I need to double check these, especially in the bottom, that one screw doesn't seem to want to go in all the way, which means I don't know if you're trying to do it, I think I was like that, I'm not going all the way, I can do my finger tip, you're going to figure down under the edge of it, and I'm trying to do it screw, I'm saying, I shouldn't matter, but don't, it's just going to be the gift for everyone, what's it just mean, it's not incorrect, I don't know, probably going to, okay, well, I'm going to put the other one in, go on, not one on, it's usually, it's like this and then lined up correctly or something, don't know why it's not just going in, it looks okay, I think, and it is off a little bit, I don't know, I don't know, it just happened to be a sling leash for the shorter screw, and the rest, see if I can just, all right, I need a little more right on the subject, I'm going to get it, okay, let's calm down, tension is running high, I don't, I don't, I don't see it, okay, so the, sorry, all right, this is tightening, or I just need to, the screwdriver, it comes, it has a little like leverage device, you can stick out, stick in it, to give you more leverage, so I used that, the tighten up the screw that was going in and it went in all the way, and I'm just going to go back and tighten up the other ones a bit, just to make sure I did have to use the leverage thing to get them loosened up, and all the screws on here, I'm usually very, how to let go, I'm not one to overtake things, but if it's a hinge, I know you don't want to come and we'll see there, I'm just going through and tighten each of these up, technically, I guess with the torque, it should pop if it's going to strip anything, it shouldn't tighten more than it's supposed to, but that's, and I get the area over tighten the things, tighten that a little bit more, and then I'm like, but I mean, in the worst case scenario, I think I just need to tighten those screws, I just need to, I don't think there's, I just need to take the back cover off, which might be ideal, but it wouldn't be horrible either, okay, so now I should be able to close the lid and then reverse the rest of these steps. I closed these enough, it seems, and I'll see anything getting, it looks pretty good, I have a closed, it looks like the regular gap, we're non-gap with the back over, all right, so we did 29 and then 28, so now we can do us put back the display assembly cable, so that's this little spring thing that it goes back in a year and get screwed in, I'll just let, oh, let me look at this back, that spring, that spring, that goes there, so that can go in, and you don't know, there we go, yes, so where's that go, we're very confused, now I'll take it to the door, kind of, okay, that looks right, 28, oh, well, where did it, oh, okay, I'm just confused, wow, that's because 28 is, oh, that was 29 technically, I think, what I did this, hinges, I've mislabeled, okay, and best laid plans, even this is now confusing me, I think these, I just reassembling, it means getting things back in place without the screws, I mean, like just getting in line up so you can screw stuff back in, okay, so I tried both sides, that would be the other direction, like that, there we go, okay, and these two these spring comes, okay, that's good, that's 27, okay, all right, now we're back on course, it's a little bit confusing, I gotta think we'll back on course, that doesn't seem to be going back in quite, all right, let's see, all right, what do I need, T3, T3, T3, T3, T2, T3, T2, T4, there we go, now we're going to let it, let's see which one says T3, but maybe it's a T4, I think it was a T4, yes, for this actually T3, everything there T4 is all right, there's a little one, I don't do it personally, I'm gonna get the other screws started, okay, yes, now is it going in, same's T3, yep, tighten it up, tighten the other side, you have a beautiful, all right, just got assembly back in there, keeps pulling out, all right, well, knock on wood, type of solution, say anything yet, but for this is not been quite as bad as I thought it was going to be, particularly given the number of instructions, but I may be jinxing myself, guess we won't down until we actually turn it on and see a screen, just put that partly in, let's get the other screw, I keep wanting to pull away from my lining up, there we go, all right, and to use my screwdriver to hold it in place, when I got the screw started, but now it's going, I think all this stuff, okay, that's in, yep, that definitely is working out, if I didn't just strip it, hopefully I never have to find out, play, I'll call that good, all right, 26, remove the antenna cable with some, well, re-ins, wow, is there something? I'm a double check, as I feel like I'm missing 27, did I pop? I'm going to that pop, all right, during assembly gently pinched the cable bundle together and got through the hole and the chassis until the correct position on the board if you need to use tools, I've got it through, okay 26, that's, I feel like now that's definitely, okay, that definitely goes in there on this work, there we go, all right, that's not so bad, actually, it's easier to get it back in there than they get it out, okay, gently pinch the cable bundle together, got to the holes if you need to, okay, that's back there, 25, carefully remove it until assembly wall, solidators, okay, I did that, unseeked the antenna, so now I need to re-seek the antenna assembly, until exactly now how that works, just press down on it, don't, I'm kind of pressing down on it, but I don't, like, oh, there we go, I just sort of heard something click, finding where it is, to get it to click is one thing, the left side and the middle definitely seem better seated than the right side, I just, it doesn't matter, once I get the screws on, all right, I like to insert that done, I clicked in the middle, okay, I'm going to hold that good, remove the two-way torch goosey carrying the two antenna cable, it looks something's not, all right, what is that step, let us step 23, okay, that's the right cup, and then it will order us out, T5, what do I have currently, two-way down on the flashlight, T4, T5 tip, yeah, you may hear a dog barking in the background, he's outside, he's a little noisy at times, that was what generated that last, if you didn't hear it, I think somebody was walking around, I'll give me, then one of our neighbors who's dog name is Tula, who they will come in, now he's on side, okay, I need to reconnect the antenna, I feel like I'm missing it, these are always fun, these little antenna, I have to sort of want a little straight up and press down, okay, oh yeah, boy, these are our door wide up, nice, we're looking for a wide up thing, you would think, I mean, that people's kind of bent back in the right shape direction, I might need to get my finger, a pair of glasses for this, all right, let's try this again, oh I need to, this is going to be a pain, these are always a pain, it's like, I can't come, it's like trying to get the line up and at the right angle, everything, that's very difficult, it's been got to practically go straight, straight down on, and you could, like, I don't know, no, no meter targets, have the middle meter target, and you're trying to, and this is probably going to be the best of the good part of the whole process, I'm under getting the other antenna on first, well, okay, well, yes, that goes on an easier, of course, did, nope, I didn't, it's full of myself, all right, I, okay, these glasses aren't particularly how big I am, he just looked at me before, I need to have like a little, one of those, I don't know where it is, um, like workmen's, workbench, you know, it's kind of, magnifying glasses that you can set at different angles, to help work on small type pieces like this, that's all I feel like, it's just now way to see, like when you lined up and that kind of, oh, amazing, okay, seems on, the worst thing would be to, I mean, of course these days you don't have, you're antenna, you don't have internet, and you've done, you know, how much of you, and the modern world, particularly when it's for a tween girl's life is, I mean, there we go, not connected to the internet to some way, we would not be able to play roblox and that would defeat the purpose of having a computer, um, okay, wow, there's a back-off, okay, oh, now it's okay, so now we're back to the screws, all right, I'll do the P2, the 12 of them first on screwdriver, P2, tiny, tiny screws, wow, those are tiny, tiny screws, I don't know, boy, all right, okay, these are a lot of nuts like, all right, we're good, well, there's one, there's two, come on, there's three, I am putting it back together, yep, I don't know, I am press by self sometimes, yeah, this has actually been relatively painless, probably I'm keep saying something too soon, but I gotta go back this direction, yeah, yeah, so I still get a little ways, but I mean, this is actually the hardest part is getting this assembly back together, and then everything else should be relatively seven times I've done, I'm doing it on the other side, but the entire assembly for this small screws, screw two, which is, I guess, screw nine all together, oh, oh, that is on handy, all right, well, apparently one of the very small screws stuck to my extra screws stuck to my finger, as I was pulling one out, and I just fell on down my leg, or hit the floor, if I could be fun to find, get this other screw in first, and then I will look at the floor, and of course now I have a cat coming to get one, fine, I'm sorry, this two things, I'm afraid I'm going to have to put you out of my lap, because a black cat does not help when I'm looking for a very small black screw, so I'm used to the carpet, and the carpet should have blue and white too, and if we keep it the balance in two, four, of course now I have a cat coming to be helpful and get love, that's not very helpful, one boy, let's get the flashlight, oh, I can't get it, you got to me, I'm afraid you're like, you know, I need to be well, I would hope that one bounce that far, pretty sure I found it, don't sit on the floor, I think that's not it, it's very handy, I want to get hot in my cold day, I'm going again, it's not like on the ground, I'm sorry, that one screw left in the cup and two screw holes, I think it would not be that difficult to find, but apparently I'm all good at that to speak, mainly downside is I was sitting in a bigger bottom chair, I guess technically it could have disappeared, it's not the best of shape, we've gotten down in between, that would be, that would hit the table, and now I feel it, like fall off my finger, stick down, I should go in my lap and straight down to the floor, understand how it can go on that, that's your very suit, it's your being, but you're not being very help, all right, I'm going to stop the recording for a minute until I can fall into the screw, okay, I was able to find the screw, thankfully, that is a really small screw, but a little perseverance and a flashlight from my phone, I was able to find it, so now let's get back to putting these back in, see if I can do this without dropping any more, especially really tiny screws, just even fun, just trying to get them lined up so I can get that, this, it's screwdriver head into the screw, okay, everything lined up is not the easiest, there we go, just like one more, that, okay, all right, everything is now nice, now we need two, some T5, the full point one millimeter, all right, the T5, the T4.1 millimeter and that is the orange, that's this piece, okay, now we need the three point three, the T5, I guess, I don't know, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, all right, and there's some cables here that just are like where does that cable and get put back in, yeah, something feel like I should be connecting some of these cables, like the last something, maybe not, we're going to use T2, did that, did that, I don't need to this disconnect antenna, I could put all the screws back in, but it looks like that's still connected, which is like a disconnect, just feeling like there's some parts that have, like that needs to get connected, I guess I can do it now, I guess maybe that's part of the cable, so I don't need to be done anyway, that's already on on the other side, so I have to do that, so I have to camera assembly thing that popped off again, there it is, have it on that very good, I can get this lined up on on, I don't know what it is, I don't have to push back the other side, I don't have to push back the other side, I don't have to push back the other one, there's already sort of going to get it to go straight down, okay, it's a little connectors are a bit frustrating at times, I think that was the camera one that I thought I could, but apparently hadn't connected very well, I'm trying to get it, oh my god, that is that out, I guess I really should make sure that was in there better before I put all this back together, all right, I think it's in, just a little more to stay very well, I guess I need to get that screw on there, I think I guess is the next, oh wait, was that what happened, oh I screwed the screw in before, let's see hopefully that will just bend back enough that I can unscrew it, all right, and then I work quite as easy putting these things back together, okay, I hope that's in there, all right, that's connected, now I'm going to where I am at this point, oh it's a serious, serious, serious screw, okay those are all the 21, my back to 20, okay, 20, just play cover, sorry, let's see this, because you're, I think it's simply way there, I like to, I need to tell which side is up there, yeah, just a matter, is that kind of looks bad, okay, let's move on to, okay, all these acid tiny screws, T3, which I think ended up being T4, one of them was a T, these were the actual T3s and the one was the T4, we did the T4 first, looks like at some point there's like a, there's a sticky part or something on the one side, so that's how I can tell which of these covers go on, which side of the T4 went in, I don't think it has T3, the T3 screw, we really hope T3 starts and everything is fixed, I don't want to have to troubleshoot this, I should do it too part, I can do assembly and disassembly or vice versa, okay, here's one cable, display cable cover on, and that should also help keep that camera, things, screws, tape, or camera, whichever connector that I was just having issue with down, I think, blanking screws lined up on the tip of the drawer, okay, on side, these are another of the tanking screws, which is always fun, all right, second side, just being okay, all right, 2019, private soy store, okay, so now we're putting that's the one that kept confusing me, but now I'm putting it back down on one of the ones that kept, there we go, that was actually fairly simple to get back, because it's bigger than, I think it's wise, my finger tip, all right, now we're putting back, what are we putting back, there's covers, display flex cable cover connector, I don't know, that is stability, there will come round of a cup, and a screw, these T3s, yes, I actually think these on the paint T4s weren't that day, this is one I should have been writing them down when they were different from what the instructions they have, I think that's a T4, yeah, that's it, all right, all over the other, all right, this cover back on is turning into it, okay, it's a bit taxing on the patience too, and I think this one will be said in a while, so they're trying to get the two holes that the cover is lined up, and then actually keep this screw on the tip of the screwdriver, and in through the cover and in through the cover, I'm trying to put the screw through the hole in the cover first, there we go, maybe that will make it easier to get everything lined up, so now the magnetic tip, the screwdriver head just pulled the screw right out, let's try the other way again, I can take a lot of access now, the screw keeps, these are teeth, oh I do know, it's a very close day, they're needing to do a lot of editing to keep this in S KVF free, I think now let me try the T3, I don't know, let's T4, but that doesn't seem to be helping me either, oh there we go, got that hole started, let me get the other screw in there on the other side, there we go, okay, I don't know actually, I don't quite work, just like that, okay, that's 17, yep, all right now we're putting the cover, I guess, on the main display cable, so let's got another these little aluminum pieces that go across the two screws, that's another T3, it says, that just go, oh boy, all right, my little aluminum piece just went away, did it go, that to turn the computer over so it fell out of whatever crevices fell into, not that there's a lot to go into, but it's found, it looks like a space, maybe around the battery, okay, it's another one, it's gonna be pretty, okay, I got one side started and see if I get the other side started, you can do it, there we go, all right, there's two in there, okay, 16, these are the hinge covers now I haven't been thinking maybe I should go back and apply those T8s again just to make sure, that's T3, one thing you should always make sure you put all your screw heads back in a little containers that you know, you've got the right size on, that must be T4, so I got T3 in there, there we go, okay, T8s, just to make sure, it feels like it's gonna go, I'm not just hand tightening it without using the leverage on it, which maybe I'm not applying enough torque, I don't know, all right, so now let's put the hinge covers back on, maybe the hinge covers were the T4s, okay, I don't know, T4s, okay, starting with the right side and cover at least the right side piece of me, there's two, the other hinge cover, okay, I don't know if it's that up, a little bit of cover, another hole is in clean, there we go, shoot, I don't know how tiny the screws aren't, I'm trying to put them back in, let's see, there we go, okay, hinge covers on, tightened down, okay, where 15, gently left a battery power connector, discharge, now connecting that back, and then I think that's when 14 is the screw, yep, all right, step 14, T5, okay, there we go, all right, it's on touch, right, touch that, all right, fold the battery data cable back, now I'm going on the opposite direction, there's this go, and that goes back this way, hit us, wait, something, doesn't that worse, wait, where's it, did I not do this, okay, finish right in here, oh, that's because I had, I mean this is where I'd rotate it, use it to slip up the small black box here, there, okay, right, all right, now I got to get the battery, the actual connector back in there, just okay, I got myself oriented, so you're sliding the cable, and there is a little tapy thing over the end that just sort of fold it back, now I'm going to slide the actual connector, I think that's still up, yeah, and two, hey, now I'll figure out how to make one of these earrings version, which is still on the final landing, and easy, we want to keep them lined up in at the right angle, it's everything else, I'm just kidding them to that point, I'm almost, I'm just listening, I'm sure the cables don't, I'll flip them up or down, okay, two main press, the cover down, all right, that was done, you know, we're insert the ribbon, now we've got the battery, that's the cover thing, okay, two strips, okay, that's back on, that was step nine, just the piece of tape covering the battery connector, all right, now we're actually to the point of putting the back on, we big, now, I'll do that, okay, I'm sure this, all right, move, working, oh, what's this that? I gotta do it sort of in reverse, I sort of slithered on there, I wonder if I just want to slide it on, or slithered off, I gotta slide it back on, this is the part I don't like when they just save reverse the directions, because it's feel like there's like all these, this little bit of extra magic, well, I just felt something snap into place and heard it on the one side, of course, and I'm gonna get it back and push that click, that's not the click of this, maybe two, okay, that's not, that's good, shoot, that's a little, it's got this, like, feel like that shouldn't be showing, there's a little bit of black in this one, all right, and I hit a pop this, okay, that's just because this is the new, that's the cover, which is like that sticking out, I don't think that's supposed to be like that, all right, let me loosen those up, over the hinge covers for those T3s or T3s or T3s, so it looks like the hinge cover, like when I got a position, it's pushed back a little bit and it's sort of over the edge, and so it's showing when I put the cover on and I don't think it's supposed to do that, and I guess I can go back up and look at that, oh man, I don't think it ain't so one screw size was that, hinge covers have to go for a center cover, I don't know, what do you think? The difference is thinking I'm not falling in to go, why don't I think I don't have any, T3s or T3s or T3s, but I wonder if it's because it's a new cover slightly, I don't know, get it, oh, how did I come out of the way, I went to those T4s, I don't know, I'm just gonna take them down enough, try to take them down, so close, all right, I'll see, oh okay, that's kind of exciting, because there's like these little green things, there we go, so I just use my pick to keep the back, that back right corner, that wasn't going to go back for enough, oh hi enough, so then I could push it back, I think that looks better, 100% more, the question is, are these going to cook in the place, so there you go, so they're just clicked, all right, I'll put these off screws in and see where we are, all right, now we are back to step, I think it was two, which was taken out the screws, all right, because I'm 0.4mm, maybe it'll all be off, okay, this one, oh okay, so there should be two of these things in the 3.4s, right, yeah, oh no, no, I thought I just dropped a screw on the floor again, luckily these are silver, so they're a little easier to see, but I didn't drop it, and that's going to go, that is the 3.4s, okay, we're going to get in the respect, and that is not for that, but it's not pure, it's something that's not quite mind-up, okay, I don't know, maybe I don't need that, I think it's not, it's not right here, I don't think this is quite mind-up, or, I don't know, okay, you see though, that's a line up, I just don't feel like they're going to flush, just don't, that is definitely not, I mean, you cannot believe they don't have an over-sessing flush, that is definitely not a Mac thing, I mean, I just think it's not cooking down in place properly, there we go, okay, I don't think it was, is that my note? That's not mind-up, there we go, that feels better, just don't feel as a little online, but maybe I don't know, I don't know, all right, that feels better, once that's too far off, I'm going to go for the other two, these are the 5.3 and the lower corners, so you can see my patience is starting to fade after a couple hours and it's getting to be dinner time, I might be getting a little angry, but it is almost together, that's the other problem, it's like almost together, that one definitely went in correctly, and we're going to have to smoothly achieve more, well that definitely went in easier, feels right, and looks good, that was a corner, I was having issues with earlier, and one more screw, oh oh, oh, yeah, yeah, just, I need a little, there we go, that was good, that was a good, that was still just a little bit, not only a screw, strip the screw, all right, turn off the flashlight on my What's this over? Look it in. Power. Open the case. Moment of truth. I'm going to be able to hear the doing. Oh, wait. Oh, it's just very low. Oh, so this green works. It just said 15% I saw the little battery thing pop up with red and it said 15% so the screen works. I don't know if it's going to start or not. I figured since the power it was and maybe it's not charging. Is that not plugged in? Is it charging? I'm going to do that again. What's going on? At the wrong. Oh, there we go. I appear that long and I see the apple. We have success. We have a fixed replace screen for my equipment.
